Most mimicry sounds like one fixed disguise: look like a leaf, a stick, or a dangerous species. The mimic octopus is more flexible. It can change color, posture, arm position, and movement to resemble different marine animals such as lionfish, sea snakes, and flatfish. The point is not a perfect costume that fools every viewer every time. It is dynamic mimicry: the same animal can choose from multiple deceptive shapes. That feels closer to acting than camouflage, even though it is still an evolved survival behavior in a shallow, predator-filled habitat.
