VERIFIED FACT

Sudan has more pyramids than Egypt.

Why this sounds fake

Most people associate pyramids almost entirely with Egypt, not with the country directly to its south.

Egypt owns the world's pyramid image, but it does not own the pyramid count. Ancient Kushite builders in what is now Sudan left behind hundreds of Nubian pyramids, especially around sites such as Meroe. They are usually smaller and steeper than Egypt's most famous pyramids, which helps explain why they are less globally recognizable. The country most people do not associate with pyramids has more of them. This is a count surprise, not a claim that Sudan's pyramids are larger or more famous. It changes the map in your head.
